Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can cause serious illness affecting the lungs and airways, particularly in infants and older adults. Adults aged 75 and older are eligible for the publicly funded RSV vaccine, as well as adults aged 60–74 who meet specific health criteria. One dose provides protection for three RSV seasons. If you have already received a dose in previous years, another is not needed at this time.
For infants, Beyfortus is a single-dose antibody injection that helps protect babies from becoming seriously ill with RSV. All babies born after April 1, 2025, who have not received Beyfortus are eligible. Some children remain eligible until age 2 if they meet certain high-risk criteria.
If you are 75+ or 60–74 and are concerned you may be at increased risk, or if your baby may be eligible for Beyfortus, please call our office at 519-284-3450 for more information.
Influenza vaccines are also available and are recommended annually for everyone 6 months of age and older to help prevent serious illness. Vaccination remains one of the best ways to reduce severe illness, prevent hospitalizations, and protect those around us.
If you are interested in an influenza or RSV vaccine appointment, please contact our office at 519-284-3450 to book your appointment.
Please note: We do not have COVID-19 vaccines in our clinic; they are available at most pharmacies.
Whenever possible, your family doctor should be your first point of contact for medical care.
If you or a loved one have a medical issue that is not life-threatening but requires urgent attention, a virtual urgent care appointment may be appropriate.
Virtual urgent care is a good option when you are unable to access care through your family doctor in a timely manner.
Visit www.urgentcareontario.ca to learn more or to book an appointment.
Most respiratory illnesses in children, including colds, influenza, RSV, and COVID-19, can be managed at home without prescription medications.
However, in some cases, it is important to seek medical care.
