Feeding Picky Eaters

Description:

In partnership with the Stratford Family Health Team and Happy Valley Family Health Team Registered Dietitians, this education and support group for parents of children 1-5 years old provides strategies and tips for supporting a picky eater.

The session explores strategies to help reduce picky eating and support children in developing a healthy relationship with food. Based on Ellyn Satter’s model “Division of Responsibility in Feeding” which promotes structure and support that parents need to help children eat a variety of foods in an amount that is right for them at the same time participate in pleasant family mealtimes.

The principles of this model include:

  • Reduced mealtime stress
  • Higher nutrient intakes in young children
  • Reduced risk for obesity and eating disorders
  • Supports positive mental health outcomes
