Pregnancy Loss Initiative

Description:

Miscarriage is the early delivery of a baby or loss of a pregnancy before 20 weeks gestation. Miscarriages are a very sad end to many pregnancies and are unfortunately common. People experience the loss of a pregnancy differently, and there are no right or wrong ways to feel about your loss. Many parents feel overwhelming and complicated emotions following miscarriage, including sadness, shame, guilt, anger and self-blame. We want you to know there is help, and you are not alone.

At Happy Valley Family Health Team, we believe that every patient that experiences a miscarriage deserves a compassionate response from their health care team in navigating their loss. We acknowledge your loss and the grief that you may be experiencing, and we are here to support you.

If you wish, a pregnancy loss package is available for you. This package contains resources and supports that can help to answer questions that you may have about your miscarriage and the physical and emotional symptoms that you may experience now and in the weeks and months ahead.

Ongoing support relating to your loss can be accessed from your Family Physician, a Nurse Practitioner, a team Social Worker (counselor), or our Pregnancy Loss Program Nurse.
